Digital Photography & Photoshop (Level 3)

This course is designed as a continuation from the Level 2 Digital Photography and Editing in Photoshop course, although students with a good technical working knowledge of their camera are welcome to join.

What The Course is About:

Are you someone who would enjoy getting out with fellow photographers and already knows a fair bit about the technological workings of a camera? We plan to document members of a local rowing club linking this to a competition/ exhibition in the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre celebrating local cultural and sporting events. Wandsworth has an Arts Festival and we will photograph interesting [mirrors hidden in a park] and bizarre [bikes hung in odd locations] sculptural installations. We will experiment with filters including dreamy colour images that involve eating Quality Street chocolates! We will work from a model to create portraits possibly flamenco dancers... Expect to do some of this with the RAW file setting on the cameras ; therefore editing in Photoshop's RAW processing to preserve top quality.

Materials Required:

This course can be joined with any type of digital camera, but you must have your manual (can be downloaded from internet if you no longer have yours). A full list of desirable equipment for the future will be provided at the first session of the course.

Previous Experience:

Basic computer skills and some knowledge of enhancing photos with software would be helpful.

End of course:

What will I achieve? • How to choose which Mode you need for each specific situation. • How to gain confidence taking photographs in public situations • How to photograph movement • How to photograph in low light situations • How and when to use a tripod • How to plan a composition • How to look at contemporary photography and develop a critical eye
