Summer School – Cyanotype Masterclass

On this one-day taster course you will be introduced to an early photographic printing process invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel.

What The Course is About:

Cyanotypes are a popular form of early photographic printing invented by Sir John Herschel and popularised by Anna Atkins. Students can create the distinctively blue images associated with cyanotypes using digital negatives created from photo.

Materials Required:

You will need to bring heavy weight A4 watercolour paper to print on, paper is available from our shop. If you want to make photograms then you'll need to bring a variety of solid and transparent objects to place on top of the paper. Also, if anybody wants to print photographs with Cyanotype they should bring digital images on a memory stick and A4 Ink Jet Acetate (we sell single sheets of this in our onsite art shop).

What will I achieve? By the end of the day you will understand how to correctly mix your cyanotype chemistry and coat your paper. You will know how to expose your paper correctly and the right wat to 'develop' your image to get the best results. You will
