Watercolour for Beginners / intermediate

This course is aimed at complete beginners who want to learn the basics of
watercolour or students with some knowledge wanting to improve their watercolour skills.

What The Course is About:

You will be taught about colour mixing and a range of watercolour techniques. You will be finding ways to express colour, light and texture using watercolour techniques. Subjects covered will range from simple still lives and landscape, architecture and the human form. We will be experimenting with different ways of using paint and will look at how watercolour painters use various techniques. Your tutor will also demonstrate how to use techniques such as “wet in wet” or “wet on dry” and reserving.

Materials Required:

What to bring to the first session: Most materials can be bought in the school shop but you will also be given a list of materials when you sign up for the class. For your first session please have watercolour paper, and a pencil plus 3 tubes of the three primary colours – Cadmium Red, Cobalt Blue and Cadmium Yellow, and a watercolour brush – either an 8 or a 10. 500ml bottle of water, small container.

Previous Experience:

For complete beginners or students with some knowledge wanting to improve their watercolour skills.

End of course:

You will learn the basic principles of observational drawing and be shown how to interpret visual information. During the course you will learn watercolour techniques and paint from a variety of subject matter. The aim of the course is to help you develop your skill as a watercolour painter and also improve your drawing skills.
