May Half Term – Experimental Art & Media

This course presents an opportunity to re – invigorate current practice by generating a body of artwork that explores a variety of imaginative approaches to a given theme(s).

What The Course is About:

This course presents an opportunity to re - invigorate current practice by generating a body of artwork that explores a variety of imaginative approaches to a given theme(s). This is a taster course, introducing you to new ways of seeing and working. Through a series of experimental and practical exercises students will ‘test out’ and expand their understanding of materials and processes generating ideas for drawings and 3D objects/forms. Responding to a range of different subject matter and stimuli students will explore visual and conceptual ideas/themes towards how you can create both large (installation) and small scale works whilst employing a variety of media.

Materials Required:

Please bring any materials and tools of your choice to include: ink (water-soluble) ball of string/twine, glue, paper (selection of papers can be bought from the art shop at the school to include A1 Cartridge and Newsprint paper, tracing paper A2; contactless payment), selection of newspapers, selection of brushes, selection of pencils, a white pencil and chalk stick, biro(s), charcoal (mixed sizes), putty eraser, pencil eraser, sketchbook (any size: A5/A4/A2), a video/camera/phone for recording and documenting purposes and money/cash for photocopies and any random spare paints that you might have.
Students can leave their work and materials in the studio overnight for the duration of the course.

Previous Experience:

Suitable for students with experience of drawing and / or making.

End of course:

What will I achieve? By the end of the course, encouraged by a new freedom of expression students will have developed a confidence that will re-invigorate and challenge their current art practice and thinking.
