This course is designed for beginners with little or no experience, or experienced painters wanting to explore the possibilities of abstraction in their work. Abstract art focuses on expression, emotion, and experimentation rather than realistic representation. It’s all about colour, form, texture, and movement. This workshop will explore the freedom and boldness of abstract composition.

This workshop will explore the freedom and boldness of abstract composition. On this one-day abstract painting course, you will explore the fundamental approaches to abstraction, helping you develop your unique visual language through colour, gesture, scale, form, and line. From colour theory to composition, you will be given guidance, to develop your creativity through experimentation.

Materials Required:

What to bring to the first session: Bring to the first class any drawing and paintings materials you possess. Further items can be purchased from the school shop.

How to create expressive abstract artwork using a variety of medium, layering and mark-making techniques, and developing a composition using colour and shapes to produce a unique and personal painting.
