Summer School – 2 Days: Life Sculpture (All Levels)

This course will teach you sculpture from life using clay. It is aimed at all levels of ability; beginners, intermediate and advanced students.

What The Course is About:

On this course you will explore the possibilities and limitations of clay. You will do this through a variety of structured exercises based on direct observation from the life model. You will gain a basic understanding of how to render proportion and will learn how to apply perspective. You will learn through the process of making a series of clay studies. There will be tutor demonstrations and individual guidance.

Materials Required:

For the first lesson please bring a notebook / sketchbook and something to write with; a digital camera or camera phone is useful to record of your work. Basic hand tools can be bought from the school shop but there are also some communal tools available to start with. Materials such as clay, slips and glazes are provided and a charge is made based on the weight of your work prior to firing. You will also need a suitable waterproof apron.

What will I achieve? You will learn and develop your knowledge of the principles of observational life sculpture and be shown how to interpret visual information.
