Summer School – Experimental Textiles

This course is a taster in learning how to work with punch needle embroidery (Tufting)/ applique work and working with incorporating mixed media like beads/ tape on your tufted piece.

What The Course is About:

This is a practical, one-day intensive course. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and individual creativity through exploring tufting. Demonstration on techniques including, working with found objects, applique, patching, stitching pattern making and mixed media work.

Materials Required:

The tutor will lend her punch needles for this class. You can bring 'Monks Cloth' the fabric that will be used for tufting, elements that could be added to the finished tufted piece like beads, scraps of printed textiles, embroidery thread, etc. Monks cloth can be purchased on Amazon.

End of course:

What will I achieve? By the end of course, students will have a deeper awareness of the expressive potential and meaning of textiles as an integral part of contemporary art practice. Students will be more confident with colour, texture, and materials.
