Life Drawing & Painting (All Levels)
The emphasis will be on observation, building upon basic principles of drawing and moving towards personal expression through experimentation with various media and techniques.
What The Course is About:
This life class will provide students with opportunities to develop their skills and abilities
from whatever level of experience they are starting from. Sessions will start with a series of
warm-up exercises which will involve short poses. Each term will focus on a particular aspect of
working with the figure:
Term1) Tone and mark making
Term3) Colour, shape & pattern
Occasionally we will look at a particular material or technique i.e. brush & ink or collage etc.
There will more emphasis on painting in the second half of each term. You will be encouraged to
look your own work and that of other students through informal discussions. we will also look at
the work of other artists through slides shows.
Poses will vary in duration and aspect depending on the theme and approach being adopted.
We will work with a range of experienced models.
What to bring to the first session:
The first session is always based on drawing:
A range of drawing media to include charcoal, pencils 2B -6B, putty rubber, sharpener, and
masking tape. A full materials list will be available during the first session.
What will I achieve?
You will learn the basic principles of observational drawing and be shown how to interpret visual information through life drawing. During the session the tutor will discuss, with each student, the progress of their work, offering, if required, suggestions and advice. Each student will be treated as an individual, so beginner, intermediate or advanced student will be able to develop his or her own practice. Students, assessing their own personal development, may wish to work in a particular medium over consecutive sessions.
