Summer School – Portrait Drawing

An intensive one-day course working with varied approaches to portrait drawing.

What The Course is About:

Applying some lively and exploratory exercises to observational work, students will test out different drawing materials and approaches to this subject; line, tone and gestural mark - making with a view to creating a unique body of responses on paper.

Materials Required:

Plenty paper: A1 and sketchbook A4/A5 A1 Newsprint and Cartridge paper can be bought at the school Thick and thin charcoal Putty eraser Pencils: 3b/4b/6b/8b Water soluble Ink Brushes for ink - any Watercolour Paper (optional) Biro Any other drawing media of your choice

Previous Experience:

Suitable for all levels.

End of course:

A renewed confidence and understanding about the potentialities for personal expression when making drawings from the human form; to capture a ‘fleeting look’ or something of the ‘character’/nature of our model/‘sitter’.
