Summer School – 2 Days: Introduction to Mokulito (Drawing, Surface & Transferable Print Practice)
Explore Mokulito, wood lithography, as a direct, tactile printmaking process rooted in drawing and material sensitivity. This intensive two-day course introduces a low-tox lithographic method ideal for artists seeking to expand their print and studio practice through layered thinking, surface experimentation and iterative image-making.
What The Course is About:
This intensive two-day course introduces Mokulito (wood lithography) as a contemporary, low-tox alternative to stone lithography, combining drawing, surface experimentation and printmaking into a highly transferable studio methodology. Working directly onto plywood plates, participants will explore the sensitive relationship between grease, water, pressure and grain, producing prints that retain the immediacy of drawing alongside rich tonal variation. The course is designed for artists seeking to expand their material thinking and image-making strategies. Mokulito is positioned as both a technical process and a conceptual tool, supporting practices across drawing, painting, photography, installation and mixed media. Emphasis is placed on experimentation, iteration and professional studio discipline, with structured demonstrations balanced by independent working time, group discussion and critique. Participants will produce a small body of Mokulito prints while developing skills that translate beyond printmaking, including surface sensitivity, process control, reversal, layering and sustainable studio practice.
Materials Required:
What to bring to the first session:
The course includes: Access to presses, Inks (oil-based litho inks), Rollers and brayers, Press blankets, Cleaning materials.
