Summer School – Composition & Colour: Drawing & Painting on the River Thames David Hockney

Take What You Need from analysing the colour and composition of David Hockney’s work.

What The Course is About:

On the first day, ideas are demonstrated about how Hockney constructs his composition, the colour contrast used and how Hockney layers his colours using acrylic paint. Also demonstrated is how these techniques can use to turn digital images into paintings. For example, how can the above digital image be created in paint. With ideas about Hockney’s working process in mind, on the second and third day, you will work with both acrylic and/or oil paint on location by the Thames at Putney.

Materials Required:

Acrylic and oil paint and charcoal. A detail list of materials will be provided to you on day 1.

What will I achieve? The aim of the course is to help you develop your skill as a painter and also improve your observational skills.
