Summer School – 3 Days: Alternative Sustainable Etching (All Levels)

On this 3 day course you will explore alternative sustainable Etching processes.

What The Course is About:

Explore the potential of Copper Plate Etching over 2 days using Ferric Chloride acid and Soywax and B.I.G grounds. Suitable as an introduction to etching for beginners or for those who wish to develop their etching skills for a home printmaking studio. Preparing plates, etching and printing your own image using contemporary materials with traditional techniques under the guidance of an experienced tutor.

Materials Required:

Materials: [acid, grounds and remover, ink tissue & newsprint will be provided] copper etching plate (available to buy PSAD) suggested starter size: 10cm x 12cm x 2 test plates. Note book & pen, apron, etching needle, burnisher (not essential) Basic art materials: pencil, rubber, sketchbook (with ideas to work from), sharpie, assorted small round head brushes- (cheap acrylic), printing paper, cartridge paper for proofing, etching printing paper (eg: Somerset) and small portfolio

Previous Experience:

Suitable as an introduction to etching for beginners or for those who wish to develop their etching skills for a home printmaking studio.

End of course:

What will I achieve? Having attained a level of technical skill, you will start learning through personal projects. The course takes place in a communal workshop and as such, there is a lively and open forum for ideas and discussion.
