Summer School – Open Studio (sustainable) Etching
Etching Open Studio sessions are available to those who already have some experience of etching techniques and are interested in developing their own projects.
Explore the potential of Copper Plate Etching over 2 days using Ferric Chloride acid and Soywax and B.I.G grounds. Suitable as an introduction to etching for beginners or for those who wish to develop their etching skills for a home printmaking studio. Preparing plates, etching and printing your own image using contemporary materials with traditional techniques under the guidance of an experienced tutor.
What The Course is About:
Open studio Etching sessions are available to those who already have experience of etching and are interested in developing their own projects. This is an opportunity to work independently and develop your work. Tutor input and support is available throughout if needed.

Materials Required:
Basic etching tools are available to borrow, and you can bring your own tools if you have them. Paper, pencils, paint brushes etc… are available from the school shop.
Materials: [acid, grounds and remover, ink tissue & newsprint will be provided] copper etching plate (available to buy PSAD) suggested starter size: 10cm x 12cm x 2 test plates. Note book & pen, apron, etching needle, burnisher (not essential) Basic art materials: pencil, rubber, sketchbook (with ideas to work from), sharpie, assorted small round head brushes- (cheap acrylic), printing paper, cartridge paper for proofing, etching printing paper (eg: Somerset) and small portfolio
Previous Experience:
Previous experience of etching and the ability to use the etching studio and equipment independently safely.
Suitable as an introduction to etching for beginners or for those who wish to develop their etching skills for a home printmaking studio.
End of course:
This class offers those with some previous experience of etching the opportunity to continue to work on and progress their individual projects and to develop their etching skills and experience, with tutor support and advice.
