Summer School – Pastel Portraits

A one-day workshop exploring chalk pastels. Known for its vibrant effects, chalk pastel is a great medium, combining colour and drawing with an expressive immediacy.

What The Course is About:

Working directly from the model, we will explore the immediacy of chalk pastel, it’s unique ability to create a likeness through the freshness of the medium. Beginning with initial drawing, placing proportions, we will make a tonal study then move onto pastel technique and colour. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your pastel and drawing skills, enjoying the expressive qualities of the medium.

Materials Required:

What to bring to the first session: Bring to the first class chalk and oil pastels you possess; paper and further items can be purchased from the school shop.

What will I achieve? At the end of the course, you will have some drawings showing the freshness of the chalk medium and the exploration of colour and tone.
